Passionate honours Hyderabad's Youth Icons and Youth Achievers as part of the International Year of Youth Celebrations of the United Nations
Hyderabad... 3 December 2010: Hyderabad based youth NGO Passionate Foundation, founded and run by the youth to involve their peers in community service and social responsibility honoured Hyderabad's Youth Icons and Youth Achievers as part of its'Wake up Hyderabad' campaign here at Marriott Hotel, Hyderabad today. The 'Wake up Hyderabad' campaign has been taken up by Passion¬ate is to celebrate the International Year of Youth of the United Nations. The Wake up Hyderabad campaign is officially recognised by the United Nations. About 14 youth icons and youth achievers were honoured on the occasion. Mrs. VS. Ramadevi, Former Governor of Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh, Sri Nadendla Manohar, Hon'ble Deputy Speaker of A.P. Legislative Assembly and others took part in the event. The Youth Achievers' Event was followed by a panel discussion on 'Taking India Forward'.
Several Youth Achievers and Icons from Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh were honored and their success in various fields was celebrated. Those honored include Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan - Founder Loksatta Party; Mr. Pullela Gopichand - Badminton Player; Ms. Jwala Gutta - Badminton Player; Dr. Sunitha Krishnan - Social Activist; Mr. Varun Sandesh - Actor; Ms. Sujatha - Anchor; Ms. Swathi Reddy -Actor; Dr. P. Raghuram - CEO Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation; Ms. Suhani Pittie - Jewelry Designer; Mr. Anuj Gurwara - Singer; Mr. Naresh - Physically Challenged and IITTopper; Mr. Sharif- Social Worker; Mr. Vinay- UN Representative from India and Mr. Subhash - Social Worker, working to empower blind women.
Speaking about the initiative, Founder Secretary of Passionate Foundation Chaitanya MRSK, 19-year-old student and young achiever himself (Winner of U. N. Award for Excellence in Community Service at United Nations Youth Assembly - 2007, New York) said, "it gives us immense pleasure and pride to honor these young icons and youth achievers who have carved a niche for themselves through their sheer commitment and dedication." We have strived to identify, recognize and show¬case the achievements of these youth icons and youth achievers across various walks of life. We hope to give a direction to the aspirations of the youth and inspire them showcasing the contribution and merit and their positive impact on our society, he added.
The year is named Our Year Our voice, so all the youth achievers and Icons are selected on the basis of an internal poll organised by Passionate Foundation among its 400 young members from various schools and colleges from the city, informed Chaitanya.
India has the second largest and youngest population in the world. 65% of Indian population is below the age of 35 and what the youth think and do will have great impact on the nation in years to come. This power of youth should be harnessed for a better tomorrow, said Chaitanya; Founder Secretary - Passionate Foundation.
The International Year of Youth proclaimed by the United Nations is an effort to harness the energy, imagination and initiative of the world's youth in overcoming the challenges facing humankind, from enhancing peace to boosting economic development.
