Diabetes Awareness Skit at City Center, Hyderabad
Medical students spread the message on diabetes through a skit on World Diabetes Awareness Day
Hyderabad, 14th November, 2012: Diabetes as we all know has emerged as the giant killer of millennium. If the last century had infectious diseases as our concern this century with its modernization has brought lifestyle diseases with it.
India has the largest population of diabetics and Hyderabad apart from being city of pearls and IT city has unfortunately emerged as the DIABETIC CAPITAL of INDIA. As healthcare individuals, we share the responsibility of creating awareness regarding diabetes.
Medical students and Doctors from MEDITHON - An association of Medical students from all over AP; initiated an awareness campaign on World Diabetes Awareness day (November 14th) at City Centre mall. The activity began with a flash song, grabbing the attention of the shoppers at the mall. A skit followed in which medicos representing Diabetic monster, junk food, alcohol, hypertension etc., enlightened the public about diabetes its risk factors and complications. The medicos expressed grave concern at the fact that INDIA has become the NUMBER ONE DIABETIC COUNTRY in the world by overtaking China in March 2012, and as responsible medicos wanted to bring down the diabetic population of the country by spreading awareness.
Dr. Sangita Jha an eminent endocrinology surgeon spoke about diabetes and its implications with a note on combating it. This followed an interaction round. The crowd was later treated for a small festive play where goodies and gifts were distributed to them.
Team Medithon head Dr Aleem and team members including Zubair, Amer, Lubna, Arsalan and Shivashankar thanked everyone for being a part of this noble cause.
