MediaSphere at St. Franics College For Women, Begumpet, Hyderabad.

ZEITGEIST (formerly known as DRUSHTI) presents 'MediaSphere' a One day event for all the budding Mediawalas of the twin cities.

The purpose of this event is to provide a forum for students to compete, interact and share ideas. This event is expected to see the participation of Media students around the Twin cities, making it one of the first inter-collegiate Media events that the city has ever seen.

The judges of each of the competitions are experts in their respective fields of Media. They will also give a Seminar before/after each competition.

The five media competitions to be organized for the day are:

1) KALIEDOSCOPE (A PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST)

Topic: Metamorphosis (Change)

The participant will submit 4 photographs that directly/indirectly represent the term chosen.All digital files must be 5 megabytes or larger, must be in JPEG or JPG format, and must be at least 1,600 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,600 pixels tall (if a vertical image) and should be sent as email attachments to [email protected] no later than 17th September, 2013.

Rules: The Contest is open to students only (any student registered in a full time course, a scanned copy of the ID card will be required to determine eligibility for the prize)
Digitally edited photos (Lightroom, Picasa and HDR photos will not be permitted)
All photos must be original.
Incomplete Entries will not be considered.
Photographs without EXIF data will not be considered

Your Rights: You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit, including ownership if applicable.
You only grant Zeitgeist rights to non commercial use of your photograph if you are honored by the competition as an honorable mention, finalist, runner up or prize winner.Accepted entries will receive invitation to attend the fest to present their photographs, the participants will be questioned on their perspective by the judges and the audience.


Kaleidoscope will be judged by Mr. Arvind Chenji - A professional photographer from Hyderabad, he has been practicing and perfecting the art of photography for over three decades now. The images captured by him are famous for bringing out the desired characteristics of the subject amidst surreal surroundings. He has also worked with the critically acclaimed National Geographic magazine in India.

2) BIRD’S EYE VIEW (A 30 SECOND VIDEO MAKING COMPETITION USING MOBILE PHONES)

Topic: Public Service Announcement.

The participant will submit a 30 second video shot using his/her Mobile phone which directly/indirectly represents the theme chosen. The entries should be sent as email attachments to [email protected] no later than 17th September, 2013. Videos with obscene content will be not accepted. Accepted entries will receive invitation to attend the fest to present their videos, the participants will be questioned on their perspective by the judges and the audience.

Bird's Eye View will be judged by Mr. Vasuki Belavadi who is an an associate professor at the Department of Communication, University of Hyderabad and also is the author of 'Video Production' India's first book on that subject. Mr. Belavadi will discuss the videos of the participants based on the areas they can improve upon.


3) THE NEWS ROOM ( LIVE NEWS ANCHORING COMPETITION)

The participant and his/her team of 2 - 4 persons will be given footage/photographs/news item on the spot and they will have to host a Live news show. The registration should made via email to [email protected] before 17th September, 2013. The teams will be questioned by the judges and the audience will be the participatory audience of their show.
The respective judge(s) will give a Seminar before/after each competition.

The Newsroom will be judged by Ms. Mridula Chunduri who is a Journalist at TV Today. Ms. Chunduri will talk about ‘The Do’s and Don’ts of Broadcast Journalism.’

4) WORD PLAY (A PHOTO FEATURE WRITING COMPETITION)

The participant/s will be provided with one Photograph each, and they will have to write a photo feature on the spot. The word limit must not exceed 200 – 250 words. Spot Registrations.

Wordplay will be judged by Ms. Sindhuri Vuppala - Assistant Editor of Wow! Hyderabad Magazine. Ms Vuppala will talk about ‘The Art of Concise Writing in Journalism.’

5) PAPER PRESENTATION

Topic: Social Media, politics and democracy.

Submit an abstract and a 75 words biographical statement. Abstracts for papers should be 250 words in a PDF or word format and should be sent as email attachments to [email protected] no later than 15th September, 2013.Accepted abstracts will receive invitation to attend the seminar and present their paper.
Papers must follow APA style. If accepted, page length is no more than 1500 words. Papers should not have been published at a prior event earlier.


Paper presentation will be Judged by Ms. Padmaja Shaw who is a Associate Professor & Head, Department of Communication & Journalism, Osmania University. Ms. Shaw will talk about the importance of research in the field of media and also about Political Communication and Social Media.


All the students attending MediaSphere will have a platform to display their talent and also will get a chance to attend 5 Seminars from these eminent personalities.
