It was on this day (August 27) in 1971 that 'Mosagallaku Mosagadu' arrived at the cinemas. Starring Superstar Krishna as a cowboy, the film was one-of-its-kind and first such movie in India.

"It was released not only in Telugu but also in Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Bengali, English, Spanish, Russian and other languages," a note from a fans group says. A PR note says that the entertainer was pan-Indian in an era when regional films could hardly dream of being one.

Directed by KSR Das, the film also starred Vijaya Nirmala, Nagabhushanam, Gummadi, Kaikala Satyanarayana, M Prabhakar Reddy and others. Music is by P Adinarayana Rao, while cinematography is by VSR Swamy.

Shot in Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh (a song), the blockbuster was dubbed into Tamil as 'Mosakkaaranukku Mosakkaaran', Hindi as 'Gunfighter Johnny' and in English as 'Treasure Hunt'.
