My role in Ustaad Bhagat Singh will offer comic relief: Raashii Khanna

"Just like Gabbar Singh, Ustaad Bhagat Singh is going to offer a high quotient of entertainment. It is a family film that everyone can watch together in theatres," says Raashii Khanna, talking about the Ugadi theatrical release. Ahead of the release of the Power Star movie, the star heroine talks about her role in it, working with the actor-politician, and more. Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, the film will head to theatres on March 19.

Saying yes to this project without listening to the script was a no-brainer. I had been wanting to do a Pawan Kalyan film. When Harish Shankar offered me the role, I was obviously excited. This is the first instance where I signed on the dotted line without listening to the story. I just surrendered to the director's vision. But it's not like I don't know the story. Midway, I asked the director to narrate the story and he did. My portions were short over 15-20 days. My scenes are going to offer comic relief. I was in splits while shooting for some scenes.

Pawan Kalyan garu embodies a rare kind of simplicity. Often found lost in a book, he possesses an almost inexplicable innocence. On our very first day, he asked me with genuine curiosity if acting had always been my dream. When I shared my original ambition of becoming an IAS officer, he didn't just listen, he encouraged me to keep that spirit of public service alive.

Shloka, a modern-minded girl, is my character in the movie. The characterization is pretty solid. Since I have always enjoyed dancing, doing a mass number in UBS was so much fun! Sreeleela and I actually don’t have scenes together.

A shoot that typically requires 120 days was remarkably completed by Harish Shankar in just 40. On set, his spontaneity was evident as he often penned punch dialogues in the moment. I have immense respect for his patience and learned a great deal from his profound dedication to the craft.

My current slate includes a Hindi feature film alongside Akshay Kumar and the second season of Farzi. Additionally, I am filming an Amazon Prime Video series where I portray a Punjabi police officer, featuring entirely Punjabi dialogue. I am also working on the Tamil film Rowdy & Co. and am currently evaluating several Telugu scripts.
