Dr.Dasari Narayana Rao sounded the clap board for producer H.Murali’s Jaganmohini, a modern day interpretation of film maker Vitalacharya’s classic folklore of the same title. The film was launched on 28th July at Nanakramguda. TFPC president Tamareddy Bharadwaja directed the lead pair Raja and Namitha in the muhurat shot for which film maker D.Ramanaidu switched on the camera.
“Namitha plays the role of a pearl collector while Raja is a prince and Meera Chopra a princess.” Producer H. Murali said “we have roped in Narasimha Raju, the original hero of the classic Jaganmohini, to play the role of Raja’s father. We are trying in contact Jayamalini for Namita’s mother’s role. The movie’s highlight will be the under sea shots and the climax scene being shot aboard a ship near Andaman and Nicobar islands. These scenes will be manned by technicians from Hollywood.” Ilayaraja is scoring the tunes for the film.
The film will be shot extensively in locales in and around Hyderabad, Vizag and Chennai, the film’s director N.K.Vishwanath said and added that the film will likely be released in December this year.
“This is my first mythological and my first big budget film” actor Raja said “I feel absolutely elated to be working with Namita, who is considered a demigoddess in Tamilnadu.”
“This is my first Telugu film after almost five years.” Actress Namitha said “I haven’t seen the original Jaganmohini but have heard a lot about it. I am sure that I will be seen at my best in this film. Whether this film works or not such experiments will make a difference to film making in the long run”.
