Vishwaroopam Thanks Meet
Siri Media who distributed Vishwaroopam in Telugu has organized a press meet today at Taj Banjara. It was attended by Kamal Hassan, Dasari, D Rama Naidu, K Raghavendra Rao, K Vishwanath, Nagarjuna, Prabhas, Trivikram and SS Rajamouli attended it.
A press meet was organised on Friday evening at Taj Banjara by Siri Media on the success of Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vishwaroopam’. Tollywood biggies like Darsakaratna Dasari Narayana Rao, K Raghavendra Rao, K Vishwanath, Nagarjuna, Trivikram Srinivas, S S Rajamouli, D Ramanaidu, Prabhas, etc., attended to press meet in support of Kamal Haasan.
Dasari Narayana Rao said, “Dasari Narayana Rao accused the Tamil Nadu government for stopping the film after the censorship. He said, “The government should be capable enough of maintaining the law and order perfectly which otherwise it’s the government responsibility for any problem caused in the society. No one in America stops if a scathing film is made aiming at its President. But its very unfortunate that a democratic country like India is facing such problems. Kamal would have been the richest man in Chennai had he thought like a businessman. But he did not do so because he is a dedicated artist. I released the film on January 25th across Andhra Pradesh as per my commitment to him. ‘Vishwaroopam’ is running with houseful collections even in 3rd week. I’m now waiting for the release of its Part 2.”
Dr K Vishwanath, who did classic movies like ‘Sagara Sangamam’, ‘Swathi Muthyam’ and ‘Subha Sankalpam’ with Kamal Haasan spoke to the media in the press meet. He said, “It was only due to Kamal Haasan I started acting. His passion for films is amazing. He is a genius too. That’s his main drawback. He needs to unlearn certain things to survive in the industry.”
Nagarjuna said, “Vishwaroopam has made a mark in the Indian film history with its production values being higher than a Hollywood film. I’ve heard that the Tamil version got grand openings yesterday in Tamil Nadu. Nevertheless the demage has already occurred. According to me the government should not interfere after the censorship was achieved by the film. I appreciate Kamal Haasan’s guts and self-confidence.
Kamal Haasan said, “My film career began 35 years ago as dance assistant for the film ‘Sreemanthudu’ in Saradhi Studios in Hyderabad and my first remuneration was Rs 250/-. Later Balachander sir offered me a small role in ‘Inti Dongalu’ with a pay of Rs 500/-. Then my remuneration got hiked to Rs 2500/- for the Tamil version (original) of ‘Anthuleni Katha’. I received a cheque of Rs 40,000 for ‘Maro Charitra’ and I paid that entire amount as advance for a camera with the aim of becoming a technician. However, my destiny changed after the release of ‘Maro Charitra’. Everyone was under the impression that I hailed from Vizag. Even Gautami asked me the same. For the Hindi version ‘Ek Duje Ke Liye’, L V Prasad offered me Rs 2 lakhs. I faced lot of financial problems right from my early days of career. ‘Amavasya Chandrudu’ left me with Rs 12 lakhs debt. After the success of ‘Ek Duje Ke Liye’, I was able to repay it slowly with the advance amount that I received for the films I signed. I’m not annoyed with the hurdles for ‘Vishwaroopam’. It only made me feel sad deep inside as I felt that an artist should not be insulted. I’m an actor, director but not a riot. I still feel there is lot to learn from all directors including Rajamouli. I still consider myself like an assistant director.” He concluded saying, “I’m thankful to the media for its support and strength during the release of ‘Vishwaroopam’. Subhas Chandra Bose devoted his whole life for India by staying away from the country. I might probably follow the same if things repeat once again.”
SS Rajamouli, Trivikram Srinivas, Prabhas and D Ramanaidu also spoke in the press meet.
