Kamalini Mukherji about her upcoming projects.

What is your next film about?
My next movie is called STYLE. It’s a film based on dance and celebration. I am paired opposite Lawrence in this movie. I play the role of Prabhudeva’s sister who is a classical dancer. My character’s name is Priya. She is a very sweet, strong and courageous girl. In fact she is an inspiring force in this film which binds the two characters played by Lawrence and Prabhudeva.

What was the experience like, to dance with Lawrence?
I was very scared though I had very little dancing to do in this film. there is this one dance sequence him where he is performing a western dance bit and I am doing a Indian classical bit, I was very nervous because I am not much of a dancer and I had to perform with LAWRENCE. But he very patient and gave me time. Finally I think that dance number is looking pretty good.

Your are doing another movie with Shekhar Kammula after Anand?
Shekhar is my best friend in this industry. He was my mentor and taught me the ropes of this industry. I feel very lucky and blessed to be able to work with him again. Especially on a very beautiful film like Godavari. I am not saying that Godavari is better than Anand. Anand is nice and sweet in its own way. But Godavari, when you see it, is like a dream.

Tells us about your co-star in Godavari, Sumanth?
Sumanth is a sweetheart. He is an absolute gentleman. He cannot be mean to a single soul that much I know. He is fun to work with. He is very spontaneous. In the last minute of the shot he will come up with an idea, and everybody is like “…..OK.”. besides that he was very helpful with my lines and my language. He is great, I think we shared a great chemistry.

What is your character in Godavari about?
My character in this movie is called Sita Mahalaxmi. She is very fiery, very loud, and very expressive. Much like me. She cannot keep anything to herself. Has to tell it out. She is very excitable at the same time very deep rooted to her tradition. She is very much like a women of today. Sita is very different from Rupa. But I enjoyed playing Sita’s role equally. Maybe even more, because I am more like Sita. So it didn’t feel like I had to get under somebody’s skin.

Is Sita a western kind of girl or more traditionally oriented?
She is not western or traditional. She is a woman of today’s world. That is an amulgation of western influences and eastern values. she is very independent, which many people will think is western and she has a lot of traditional values which will make some people happy saying she is very much Indian. She is like a mixture of everything. She is a good balance of western and eastern ideas. She wears western as well as eastern costumes.

Why did you sign the movie Meenakshi, after a successful movie like Anand?
After Anand I wanted to do a movie in which my character is portrayed as well as Rupa’s. When I was given the script of Meenakshi , the way it was narrated and the I perceived the film, I wanted to do the film. I wanted to be a part of something that is very genuine. I do not regret doing Meenakshi because it brought me a lot of experience is concerned. I had a good time shooting for the film. All my co actors were very good. I think god puts you through different times. He once gives you a lot of successes and to balance it he puts you down under. I think that is what happened for me with Meenakshi after the success of Anand.

What are your plans for December 31st?
I am going to be home for new year. I don’t have a big party plan. I will be cooking for my sister and be with my cat. Some of my friends are going to visit me.

Anybody in your family is from the film industry?
No. I am the sole filmi person from my family. Like my mother says I was born filmi. She calls me the drama queen. My dad is into ships. My mother is into jewellery. My sister did law. I have a little sister who is still in school. So nobody is into films except me.

About your academics?

Then I went to a business school in Delhi which I quit later to come to Bombay to do a workshop in theater. Then I landed in Hyderabad for the last two years.

Which is your dream role?
There are so many. I would have loved to play Kajol in DDLJ.

Your hobbies?
I read. Then films, its not a hobby its like a habit. I cook. I dance. I do a lot of things.

what does your wardrobe mainly consist of?
Jeans. I know its very boring. My mother is constantly complaining. She says its too boyish. But I am comfortable in them. We don’t have to always keep our legs together. I wear saris and salwars for formal occasions. I wear a mixture of everything.

What are your future projects?
There two films to be released style and Godavari. Apart from them I will decide when other projects come up.
