Hyderabad, December 13, 2016: Uber, the smartphone app that connects riders with drivers to provide convenient, reliable and affordable rides at the push of a button, today announced the launch of its bike-sharing product, uberMOTO, at a T-Hub event in Hyderabad with Travis Kalanick, Founder and CEO, and KT Rama Rao, Telangana Cabinet Minister for IT E&C, MAUD, Industries & Commerce.
Travis Kalanick, Founder and CEO, Uber, said “I am excited to be in Hyderabad for the launch of uberMOTO. It’s a quick, easy and affordable way to get around the city. And it’s great to be working with a progressive, forward thinking government like Telangana on smart mobility solutions that can help reduce congestion in urban areas.”
Shri K T Rama Rao, Telangana Cabinet Minister for IT E&C, MAUD, Industries & Commerce said, “We recently achieved the top spot in ease of doing business in India which is a testament to our strong belief in making Telangana a start-up leader in India. Uber has added another feather in our partnership today by launching UberMOTO to help solve the transportation and congestion problems for people in Hyderabad and I am hopeful that this service will help people in reaching their destination quickly and conveniently.”
In addition, Uber and Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to help extend the reach of the metro using uberMOTO.
Amit Jain, President of India and South Asia, Uber India, said “The government of Telangana has once again shown its commitment to embracing technology-enabled solutions. By recognising how we can transform urban mobility options in our cities through progressive regulations, Telangana is leading the way in bringing the change that our cities need.”
uberMOTO gives riders an affordable and convenient motorcycle ride at the push of a button, through the Uber app. Riders receive driver and bike details just as they do for other Uber rides, as well as all standard safety features before, during and after the ride including GPS tracking, two-way feedback and the ability to share trip details with family and friends.
How uberMOTO works:
Download the Uber app for iOS or Android and create an Uber account
Select uberMOTO in the app, enter the pickup location and payment method, and request a ride; receive driver details -- name, photo and details of the motorbike.
uberMOTO drivers will have one helmet for the rider, and all riders and drivers must wear a helmet, as per the law.
At the end of the trip, pay by cash, credit/debit card or mobile wallet and receive an electronic receipt via the Uber app.
uberMOTO will go live in Hyderabad from January 2017, and will be one of the most affordable transportation options in the city, with fares as low as Rs 20 for the first 3 kms and Rs 5 per km thereafter.
uberMOTO is also available in the Southeast Asian countries of Indonesia and Vietnam, and is especially well-suited for first mile/last mile connectivity, getting people from their homes or offices to metro stations and vice - versa.
Uber is evolving the way the world moves. By seamlessly connecting riders to drivers through our app, we make cities more accessible, opening up more possibilities for riders and more business for drivers. From our founding in 2009 to our launches in hundreds of cities today, Uber's rapidly expanding global presence continues to bring people and their cities closer. Today Uber is available in 450+ cities across 73 countries. The service is available in 29 Indian cities -- more than any other country outside the United States. www.uber.com
