Hyderabad, October 7th, 2018: The maiden and one of the largest Cancer Awareness Runs, with over 7000 participants - CANcerRUN, organised by Grace Cancer Foundation, was flagged off on Sunday at the Jal Vihar, Necklace Road. The Race was in three different categories of 2k fun walk/run, 5k run/walk and 10k timed run.

Sri Anil Kumar, IPS, ACP (Traffic), Hyderabad, flagged-off the run. Sri Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, Principal Secretary, IT and I & C, Govt. of Telangana; inaugurated the Grace Cancer Screening Bus and Ms Sangita Reddy, Jt. Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Group; distributed the prizes to the winners. Guests of Honour at the flag off and valedictory programs were Sri Rajeswara Rao, MLC; Ms Deepa Saxena, Mrs India, Telangana; Ms Vidya Sravanthi, Social Entrepreneur; Mr Nimmatoori Raja Babu, Chairman, Aurora Group of Educational Institutions. The organisers of the run, Dr Chinnababu Sunkavalli, Founder & CEO, Grace Cancer Foundation and Dr Hemanth Vudayaraju, Robotic Surgical Oncologist, Marathoner & Race Director, were also present on the occasion.

Grace Cancer Foundation, a charity organisation, working towards providing succour to cancer patients, has initiated CANcerRUN, to raise public awareness against cancer, its prevention and early detection. Over 200 cancer survivors participating in the run was the highlight and was instrumental in instilling confidence and hope amongst those afflicted of cancer and sending a strong message of, cancer after all is conquerable.

Sri Jayesh Ranjan speaking on the occasion said, the biggest problem in India as far as cancer is concerned, is late detection of the disease often so late that very little can be done. Cancer can't be treated at that stage. This is because people in rural areas and villages neglect seeking immediate help. If detected early cancer can be treated. But with Grace Cancer Foundation launching the Grace Cancer Screening Bus, the people in the remotest place will be screened for cancer and can access treatment, this is a good initiative and will help lot of people.

Sri Anil Kumar said, Grace Foundation is doing yeomen services, this run is for a noble cause, therefore run gracefully and try and complete the race.

Ms Sangita Reddy said, Grace Cancer Foundation and Apollo Hospitals have come together to launch this cancer screening bus. I am overwhelmed with the response to the run today and you all have come to support the cancer survivors and also to strongly spread the message of undergoing cancer screening and early detection. These buses will be taken to the rural areas and remote places, to people who can't afford to travel the distance to centers where treatment is available. They will be screened for various cancers in this bus, which in a way is a very significant step in reaching out to these people. The enthusiasm with which the youth participated in this run is heartwarming and signifies their concern for good health. When you say you Can Run, not only that you can run, but also help people who are cancer survivors, you can help in screening cancer, you can help to build awareness, that early detection is the best way to make someone recover. In movies the message about cancer is scary but the truth is if cancer is detected early you can cure cancer 100%. So please don't be scared of cancer but only be scared of finding cancer late.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Hemanth Vudayaraju said, Running is the easiest way to stay fit, something which comes naturally to each one of us, requires least in terms of infrastructure and equipment and hence is the most uncomplicated way to yield sustaining health benefits. There are a lot of myths and misbeliefs about Cancer along with stigma and hopelessness, this run can spread the awareness and dispel all these.

CANcerRUN is an opportunity to challenge yourself, set new limits and reduce your cancer risk by being physically active. This is a race to save lives, organized by Grace Cancer foundation. Grace has been relentless in its efforts to create awareness about cancer and aims to save lives in the long run. No one should fight cancer alone and there were thousands here who joined in the fight against cancer and ran alongside those who are impacted by Cancer, says Dr Chinnababu Sunkavalli. Cancer is curable if detected early and they don’t just survive but Conquer the disease. This run is in support of People who fought this disease, he adds.
