Hema Nalini, an accomplished Indian artist based in Hyderabad, is celebrated for her versatility as an illustrator, article writer and hobbyist photographer. Her vibrant canvases, marked by bold strokes and evocative imagery, convey powerful messages while her photography captures nature in its purest form.

Born into a family of educators in Andhra Pradesh, Hema’s rural upbringing instilled in her a profound connection with nature and a love for Telugu literature, nurtured by her aunt—her first mentor. This early foundation inspired her passion for drawing, which blossomed into a lifelong pursuit of creativity.

Academically distinguished, Hema holds a postgraduate degree in microbiology, a Bachelor’s in Education, and a Diploma in Bioinformatics from IIT Bombay. Despite her successful career as a lecturer, she chose to follow her heart, transitioning from science to full-time artistry. Her years abroad further enriched her artistic journey, transforming her passion into a profession.

Hema’s career is adorned with numerous accolades and achievements:

International Awards: Vishishta Kala Ratna Award (International Education Forum, Australia), International Mahila Pratibha Award, Mega Global Award.

Exhibitions: Participation in “Colours of Independence, 75 Years of Art” by The Bombay Art Society; first jury selection at the State Art Gallery, Hyderabad (All India Art Competition and Exhibition, 2021).

Recognitions: Medals in online art events conducted by Guinness World Records and Unique World Records; Empowered Women Award 2024 from Save Girl Child Foundation and Mundadugu News.

Publications: Featured in Lifestyle magazine (June edition), The Achievers Magazine by Dr. Harvinder Mankkar, and cover features in Cultural Reverence (October 2022 and April 2024 editions).

Illustrations: Her work has graced Telugu literature book covers, earning appreciation from dignitaries including the Vice-President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu.

Leadership Roles: One of the judges for The Times of India NIE Hyderabad edition’s Colour Splash 2023–24 interschool painting competition.

Her contributions have also been recognized by cultural institutions, including the Department of Language and Culture, Government of Telangana. She continues to inspire through solo exhibitions, workshops, and art camps, fostering cultural exchange and artistic dialogue.

In her own words: "I am blessed to be an artist as I have the opportunity to express myself and my art skills through various exhibitions, meeting different artists and art fraternities, and exchanging cultural values."

“Echoes of the Ochre" explores traces of remembered landscapes and forms, where earth-toned memories emerge from shadow and light. Through abstraction, the works become echoes—of place, time, and belonging—held within the enduring language of ochre.
