Interactive Session with Acclaimed Painter Bose Krishnamachari and Christie's India Marketing Head Sonal Singh held in city today

FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO), Hyderabad Chapter has organized an interactive session with acclaimed painter Bose Krishnamachari and Christie's India Marketing Head Sonal Singh here in a city hotel. Giving these details, Chairperson of FLO Hyderabad Ms. Jyotsna Angara said that the two distinguished guests were in conversation with our member & Past Chair of YFLO, Art Collector & Art Aficionado Ms. Parvathy Reddy. The speakers who spoke on the occasion talked about Curating Collections, Preserving works of Art, Relationship between Art and Artiste, etc.

Bose Krishnamachari is an internationally acclaimed painter and is the recipient of the award of the Kerala Lalita Kala Akademi. He was first runner up for the Bose Pacia Prize for Modern Art, New York, 2001. Born in 1963 at Magattukara village in Kerala, he did his early schooling at GHSS Puliyanam. He completed his BFA from Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai in 1991, and then completed his MFA from Goldsmiths College, University of London in 2000. His work comprises vivid abstract paintings, figurative drawings, and sculpture, photography and multimedia installations. Bose is the Artistic Director of international exhibition of contemporary art Kochi-Muziris Biennale. Recently he has also contributed to the KINGFISHER Calendar 2014, the cover page has the girls wearing artist Bose Krishnamachari's famous series of paintings Stretched Bodies, replicated as fabric design for the Swimsuits.

Sonal Singh, a specialist in Indian contemporary art is Christies India Marketing Head. House of Christies is a renowned international auction house. London headquartered Christie's is the world's first and largest fine art auctioneer. Last month, Christie's held its maiden auction in India and became the first international auction house to hold an event in India.

Sonal holds a Master's degree with distinction in Art Business from Sotheby's Institute of Art, London, where she specialised in the Indian art market. Sonal Singh joined Christie's Modern and Contemporary Indian department in 2007. Based in Mumbai, she travels frequently, having formed close relationships with members of the art community in India and Pakistan. She often contributes articles on Indian art to national magazines and newspapers and is frequently invited to speak. She also works closely with the Asian Contemporary Art department in Hong Kong to create a wider awareness of South Asian art in the region. Prior to Christie's, Ms. Singh was a Director of Bodhi Art. She worked closely with many of India's leading artists including: Atul Dodiya, Anju Dodiya, Subodh Gupta and N.S. Harsha amongst others. . The Indian Art market size is estimated to be around USD $400 million against the worldwide figure of $65 billion. It is minuscule compared to western markets. According to industry experts, the Indian art market grew vigorously from 2000 to 2008, but has been in a slump ever since. The total sale at Christie's first-ever auction in India at Mumbai last month totaled INR 96,59,37,500 (USD$15,455,000), doubling pre-sale expectations. The auction prizes brought Indian art into the limelight and gave the first sign that the Indian art market is reviving and is on an upward swing.
