On the 22nd of August, the IIID-Hyderabad Regional Chapter hosted a special Audio-visual Presentation by one of India's top architects, Ar. Sandeep Khosla at Hotel Taj Deccan. Ar. Khosla has the distinction of being picked by India Today magazine as one of the fifty men and women under the age of 35 who are poised to be leaders of tomorrow.
Ar. Sandeep Khosla is the founder and principal architect of Khosla Associates, a leading Architecture and Interior Design firm in Bangalore. Khosla's distinct style of contextual tropical architecture uses local materials and concepts, but reinterprets them with an innovative and contemporary design sensibility.
In the past 15 years of practice, the firm has notched up 13 National design Awards. Their varied palette of interior projects includes corporate offices for Nike, ING Vysya and MTV amongst others, to lounge bars and restaurants around the country such as Shiro, Touch and Roxy. Several of Ar. Sandeep's work bears a distinct global flavor thanks to his international education at Pratt Institute, New York. In the retail segment, the firm has redefined fresh images for major brands such as Wrangler, Ritu Kumar, Hard Rock Cafe, Cafe Coffee Day, KFC and Pizza Hut.
Speaking about the HID Hyderabad Chapter's focus on promoting vernacular design, Chairperson Ms.Sona Chatwani observed that, "It is commendable that Ar. Sandeep Khosla has been able to blend the best of our traditional vernacular architectural styles and designs with his international training. We hope to expose our Hyderabad architects and designers to the best of India's design talent and we are glad that Sandeep obliged us." Some of Ar. Sandeep Khosla's more famous and intriguing projects like the Cliff House in Chowara village near Trivandrum, Vastu House have gained him wide popularity amongst the design community and the general public.
The Institute of Indian Interior Designers is the Apex body for Interior Designers in India and comprises of architects, interior designers, Trade members and educationists. The objective of the guild is to bring all the stake holders of the Design profession on a single platform with a view to streamline processes, share ideas and disseminate information about emerging trends in the industry. From its inception in the year 1996, The Hyderabad Regional Chapter (HRC) has been one of the more dynamic and vibrant regional committees of the country and has been involved in several interesting initiatives and workshops, that seek to increase the level of professional engagement within the industry.
