Appam, a type of South Indian pancake made with fermented rice batter and coconut milk is a popular food in South Indian states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, Sri Lanka. The bowl shaped thin pancake is a staple diet, often eaten for breakfast as well as dinner. The taste is so neutral, that it is an instant hit on first trail itself. Now popular among the people from different communities and geographical areas. Pizza though born in Italy now belongs to everyone.
Similarly, "Appam' though originated from South India, now preferred dish among young and old across India. We want to promote "Appam" as Indian answer to Western delicacies like Pizza, informed Udayakumar.
All our Indian typical cuisines such as Appams and others have equal potential to become "Pizzas", "Burgers", but, we Indians fail in branding our cuisines. India has wide varierty of cuisines which no other country in the world can boast of. "It is our dream to see many foreigners enjoy our Indian cuisines. We wanted to reach out to as many foreigners as possible. We already have three restaurants in London, Abudhabi and Paris. In future we may even expand to other cities in the overseas markets, informed Udayakumar.
The Gold Appam for Nalaas Aappakada shot into fame is not offered now in Hyderabad. After seeing the initial response, we may think of introducing "Gold Appams" as well he informed.
