Katha - Fifty-Fifty!

‘Katha’ is a romantic thriller starring Genelia D’ Souza along with new comer Arun Aadith. Directed by Srinivas Raaga, the script was inscribed by Gunnam Gangaraju, who is also the producer of the film. SK Balachandran, who worked for four TV serials earlier, appears to be making his mark on silver screen too through this venture. So we are checking out SK Balachandran’s first film album ‘Katha’, that has altogether five sound tracks. Lyrics were penned by Ananth Sriram.
Thaka Thaka Music: SK Balachandran Lyrics: Ananth Sriram Singer: Naresh Iyer
The album starts with a beautiful number “Thaka Thaka..” that will entice the music lovers. Although the instrumentation is old, the sound design and the rhythm gave the song the true feel. SK Balachandran does it exceptionally well with perfect and lively composition. It certainly will turn out to be a haunting track. Anantha Sriram‘s lyrics are perfect to the theme of the song. Sung by Naresh Iyer this sensual track directly strikes the chord with the listener. It’s my favourite pick on the album.
Ding Dong Music: SK Balachandran Lyrics: Ananth Sriram Singer: Haricharan, Pranavi
“Ding Dong” is a peppy number with foot tapping beats that gives a feel of hip-hop. Genelia has an amazing screen presence, therefore this song is bound to create a visual appeal. This being debut film for Arun Aadith, I reserve my comments for time being. Ananth Sriram’s lyrics are innovative and quite hummable. Haricharan and Pranavi sung it with great ease. Overall it’s a fun-filled song that establishes a nice mood.
Bhayanga Bhayanga Music: SK Balachandran Lyrics: Ananth Sriram Singer: Nithyasri
After listening to two good tracks, a breakdown comes up with this one ‘Bhayanga Bhayanga’ which is really boring and painful. The heavy drums and chorus put together sets a heavy atmosphere and it’s hard to stay interested. But the lyrics appear more dramatic that probably moves the story forward. Nithyasree’s voice stands out well in this song.
O Kaalama Music: SK Balachandran Lyrics: Ananth Sriram Singer: Haricharan, Pranavi
Although there is no shortage of sad songs in Telugu films, ‘O Kaalama’ is another really sad number based on sad situation of lead pair in the film. It has to work on screen first because such songs would be less interesting for the listeners. The 3rd and 4th tracks almost appeared the same to me as I find nothing new in SK Balakrishnan’s musical composition style. While Haricharan was at his usual best, Pranavi ‘s voice is soft and pleading to ears.
Just Play Music: SK Balachandran Lyrics: Singer: SK Balachandran
Finally SK Balakrishnan ends the album with single line bit ‘Just Play’. Western influence is predominant in this miniscule song.
Overall this album is not too amazing but at the same time not boring too. On the personal front well, the first two tracks in the entire album stood out to me on first listen and made me go ahead for repeat listens.
