Villian - Kaavule, the best song of the album.

‘Villain’ (Ravan in Hindi, Raavanan in Tamil) is a forthcoming multi-lingual film written and directed by Maniratnam. Based on the great Indian epic ‘Ramayana’ Maniratnam has shot the film in a modern day version. The film being produced by Madras Talkies is expected to release on June 18th, 2010. The background music as well as the soundtrack is composed by Oscar and Grammy winner AR Rahman. The audio was recently released and here is my review on the music album.
Veera Music: A.R. Rahman Lyrics: Veturi Singer: Vijay Prakash, Keerthi Sagathia
The song starts off with beautiful drum thumps. The acoustics with the drumming is absolutely fantastic. ‘Veera Veera’, though very classy, the elements of music dominated while the vocals quite contrast added just the needed amount of power. Vijay Prakash and Keerthi Sagthia rendered the vocals. The song describes that Ravana can change into Rama with the qualities of Rama. We all know the visualizations of songs in Maniratnam’s films. Therefore this song too might appear elegant on silver screen.
Usure Poyene Music: A.R. Rahman Lyrics: Veturi Singer: Karthik
This track starts off with a richly harmonized but slow tempo. As the track develops, a slow percussion gives entrance to introductory gallop vocals. The impressive lyrics by Veturi are performed by Karthik with great zeal. I really like the pattern of bass riff and drum fills on this track. Overall it’s a decent track, have a listen and decide yourself.
Kullupudithe Music: A.R. Rahman Lyrics: Veturi Singer: Benny Dayal, Devi Sri Prasad
This rap number sung by Benny Dayal and Devisri Prasad is quite boring. I recommend against listening to this annoying song. AR Rahman’s music is not up to the mark in this track.
Kaanala Chilaka Music: A.R. Rahman Lyrics: Veturi Singer: Naresh Iyer, Anuradha Sriram
‘Kaanara Chilaka’ is a country song in contemporary style. It’s a romantic duet sung by Naresh Iyer and Anuradha Sriram. Although the orchestrations are well built enhancing the impact of the music, I’m not impressed with the voice of Anuradha Sriram.
Kaavule Music: A.R. Rahman Lyrics: Veturi Singer: Ankitha
Ah! ‘Kaavule’ is a tasty ear candy with Veturi’s impressive lyrics and Ankitha’s beautiful rendition. AR Rahman provides a very nice piece with a simple and well balanced orchestration. The song is very beautiful and sounds pleasant to ears. This is because AR Rahman’s ethnic music is warm with the combination of delicate classical instruments and romantic female voice. Treat yourself, as this is a sophisticated melody, a very special one for repeat listens.
Gudaa Gudaa Music: A.R. Rahman Lyrics: Veturi Singer: Naresh Iyer, Bhagyaraj, Tanvi Shah, Suvi
AR Rahman ends the album with a group song. The song starts with heavy drum beats and funky lyrics. I like the clapping part in the middle of the song. Since we believe Maniratnam as a brand, we normally find one such marriage song atleast in country style. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed this song.
The album no doubt has very high quality music in AR Rahman’s style, yet at the same time the pieces are not very innovative. However, ‘Kaavule’ is my pick for best song of the album and I also recommend you to enjoy this funky number ‘Gudaa Gudaa’.
