B Nagi Reddy awards from April 2012 onwards

Bommireddy Nagi Reddy, popularly known as B Nagi Reddy is the famous producer in Andhra Pradesh who became the pride to Telugu film industry by producing some of classic films like ‘Pathala Bhairavi’, ‘Missamma’, ‘Maya Bazaar’, ‘Gundamma Katha’, etc. Apart from Telugu films he also produced some super hit films like ‘Ram Aur Shyam’, ‘Shriman Shrimati’, ‘Julie’, ‘Swarg Narak’, etc.

Born on 2nd December, 1912, the veteran film producer was born in a village called Pottipadu in Kadapa district. He set up Vijaya Vauhini Studios in Chennai, which was then Asia’s biggest film studio. While his elder brother B N Reddy was a popular film director, he turned producer and produced over fifty films in four decades in the four South Indian languages and Hindi as well in the genres of historical, mythological and devotional. He took his last breath on February 25th, 2004 at 91.

Giving a award on the name of one such legend is prestige to Telugu cinema. In this regard, his son Venkatrama Reddy held a press meet on Friday and announced an award on the name of the veteran film producer B Nagi Reddy marking the occasion of celebrating B Nagi Reddy’s 100th birthday, which is called as Satha Jayanthi in Telugu.

Addressing the media Venkatrama Reddy said, “We planned to celebrate my dad’s Satha Jayanthi in a grand manner. We are also designing a website regarding this and will also release a souvenir. We are planning to honor the prominent film personalities every year on my father’s name to keep his memories forever. Hence from this year onwards B Nagi Reddy awards will be given in Telugu and Tamil film personalities. This will be handled by the jury members Singeetham Srinivas Rao, Gollapudi Maruthi Rao, S P Balasubrahmaniam and Shavukaaru Janaki. The first set of awards will be announced in March 2012. We will give away the Telugu awards on April 15th and the Tamil awards on May 1st, 2012.”
