I wanted to do EDT only after I get a good grip on Hindi – Gautham Menon

“It was since 10 years that I directed a film in Hindi. Of late many south Indian films like ‘Pokiri’, ‘Ready’, ‘Singam’, ‘Bodyguard’, etc., turned out to be bit hits even in Bollywood. But I’ve not remade ‘Ek Deewana Tha’ (Ye Maya Chesave in Telugu & Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya in Tamil) now based on this trend. Unless we are strong in the language along with story and screenplay we should not make such attempts in other languages. However the film like ‘Ye Maya Chesave’ is a film with universal subject. Hence I chose to remake this film in Hindi. This movie has given me good satisfaction. I would have remade it in Hindi long ago but I wanted to do it only after I get a good grip on the language and write dialogues on my own. This is only the cause for doing ‘Ek Deewana Tha’ now and not with the intention of making cash based on the successes of latest south Indian films. I’m very confident about this film and leaving the rest to the audience”, says Gautham Menon, whose ‘Ek Deewana Tha’ is going to hit the silver screen shortly.
