Spanish film ‘Julia’s Eye’ slated for remake in Telugu

Young N Free Films LLC of US will collaborate with Movie Magic and Plus Equips production India to develop the Telugu and Tamil remake of Spanish smash hit thriller, ‘Julia's Eyes’. It is the story of a woman who is slowly losing her sight whilst trying to investigate the mysterious death of her twin sister. The original was a massive hit in Europe, bringing in over USD 20 Million in Spain alone. The film has 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is very rare for horror/thriller genre. The original was presented by Guillermo Del Toro in association with Universal Pictures. The deal was felicitated by Meg Thompson at Eccho Media with Rodar Y Rodar of Spain and will include regional remakes in Kannada, Marathi and Malayalam markets as well.

Movie Magic and Plus Equips production is headed by Kabir Lal, the veteran cinematographer of films like Pardes, Apne, Yuvraaj, Welcome Back etc. Telugu films such as Aditya 369, Bairava deepam Andarivadu, style and 25 Telugu films. He won Film fare award for super hit Hindi film Taal and Pardes and is known for his frequent collaborations with Subhash Ghai. He remarked, “I found the film so gripping that I could not stop watching once I started. It is an incredible opportunity to collaborate on the remake of this cult film and bring it to Indian masses in multiple languages".

The film will be directed by Param Gill, a multiple award winning American filmmaker known for making diverse international films. "The cinema of world is converging, the hit movies in one geographic area or language are being remade for other languages and are making a killing. A case in point is "Miss Granny" a Korean feature which received successful remakes in Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian and Japanese. With ballooning budgets and discerning taste of the audience, targeting multiple territories by localizing one source is the strategy of the future", said Param Gill on phone from San Francisco. He has recently wrapped a studio project and is now working on a Hollywood horror/comedy film called, ‘The haunting of Donald Trump’ based on 2016 US presidential election.

The production will undergo rigorous script development and casting of A list talent for a 2019 release.
