'HanuMan', which was released in theatres on January 12, is a smash hit. The film is growing from strength to strength in Hindi as well, prompting a few Bollywoodians to take note of its success.

In this regard, 'The Kashmir Files' and 'The Vaccine War' director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri took to social media and said that the film belongs to the Indic Renaissance cinema. By this, he means that 'HanuMan' draws its ethos from the Hindu culture. He claimed that the movement was started by him in 2010 with the film 'Buddha In A Traffic Jam', a political thriller. The film was a box-office flop upon its theatrical release six years later. "What a delight to see that it’s now flourishing with blockbusters like 'The Tashkent Files', 'The Kashmir Files', 'The Kerala Story', 'Kantara', 'Kartikeya 2', and many more surprises in the pipeline," Vivek wrote.

This has had many Telugu cinephiles and audiences troll Vivek. "The movement was initiated decades ago by Telugu mythologicals. Vivek was not even born at that time," a Twitter user commented. Another one said that films like 'Devi', 'Devi Putrudu' and 'Ammoru' were made in the 1990s and 2000s by the Telugu filmmaker Kodi Ramakrishna.

"The Telugu film industry made these epics since the 1940s at a scale you couldn’t even imagine. 'Maya Bazar', 'Lava Kusa', 'Bhakta Kannappa', 'Annamayya'. From KV Reddy, Bapu, Kodi Ramakrishna, K Raghavendra Rao to Prashanth Varma, we always had directors with immense contributions in retelling the Hindu epics..and we will continue to do so," Unsubtle Indian wrote.
