How is Rashmika Mandanna's Thamma? Critics share their views

Thamma, the horror-comedy directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and starring Rashmika Mandanna as the vampire Tadaka, has elicited a mixed response from film critics. As the fifth installment in Maddock Films' Horror-Comedy Universe (MHCU), it's praised for its folklore-inspired plot, visual effects, and cameos, but critiqued for uneven humor, pacing issues, and occasional tonal inconsistencies.

While many reviewers have suggested that Thamma is flat, they have also highlighted its strengths. "What Thamma gets right is the finale. It is strikingly compact and impactful. Parts of it may demand a willing suspension of rational thought, but the climax isn't stretched out in the way that the final acts of Bollywood horror comedies usually are," wrote NDTV.

Indian Express was scathing in its 1.5-star rating review. "Ayushmann Khurrana, adorned on and off with a pair of pointy fangs, tries hard, but is never funny enough," the critic opined.

While Thamma doesn't universally match the highs of predecessors like Stree 2, as per critics, Rashmika's Tadaka is a consistent bright spot.
