Ram Gopal Varma has shone light on his upcoming movie, Syndicate. The ambitious project will be a multi-starrer, which is going to explore a nightmare scenario: "What if the entire law and order of India collapses in just one single day?" Last year, while announcing the project, RGV suggested that the title alludes to a terrifying coalition of policing agencies, politicians, ultra-rich businessmen, and the military. The "futuristic" movie is a dystopian crime thriller.
The storyline has grit and tension written all over it. If carried out well, it will be a hit. RGV has a knack for picking controversial plots. He has often explored political themes with audacity. Most of them failed to reach an ambitious level because his treatment has been stuck in the past.
In the recent months and years, RGV has closely observed the latest trends in filmmaking and storytelling. He has profusely praised two duologies: Pushpa and Dhurandhar. The treatment style of the latter is well within his grasp. If he finds the right set of technicians and doesn't settle for mediocre casting, Syndicate could well become his biggest contribution to Indian cinema in more than two decades.
