The teaser for Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayan has raised serious doubts about its supposed sky-high budget. Producer Namit Malhotra's claim that the two-part movie has been made on a budget of Rs 4,000 Cr has been contested seriously. A provocative opinion piece in The Print quotes unnamed netizens who suspect the duology might be a vanity project used for money laundering. However, these claims by anonymous trolls are defamatory in nature.
A day after the teaser's release, two spectacular claims have emerged from speculative media reports. The first suggests that the OTT rights for Ramayan: Part 1 will fetch over Rs 700 Cr, thereby eclipsing the rumored Rs 600 Cr OTT value of SS Rajamouli's Varanasi by a clear Rs 100 Cr. According to these unverified and too-good-to-be-true reports, producer Malhotra has already politely declined the offer. As that Jabardasth comedian Get-up Srinu would say, 'Nammarentra Babu!'
The second rumour is that AR Rahman alone has been paid an upfront remuneration of Rs 30 Cr. Besides, he has been offered a share in profits. This doesn't include the fee that Hans Zimmer, the other music director of the movie, is going to receive. If this news is anything to go by, the music department alone is making more than Rs 100 Cr between ARR and Hans. And this is just for the first part!
