The Prabhas Parallel: Why Bollywood is silent on Ranveer Singh’s domination

When Baahubali made Prabhas a pan-India superstar, almost every contemporary Telugu star lauded his performance in the epic Rajamouli directorial. When Baahubali 2 rose to be a Rs 1000-Cr behemoth, no less a superstar than Pawan Kalyan lavished a detailed plaudit on the powerful sequel. Everyone from Mahesh Babu to Jr NTR and Allu Arjun made it a point to mention Prabhas in their glowing reviews.

Ranveer Singh, however, has not been receiving precisely this kind of reception from his colleagues. Analysts argue that his contemporaries are full of envy and insecurity. "Mumbai, unlike the south, still treats the box office like a zero-sum game. The insecurity is palpable. Cheering for Ranveer Singh’s definitive ascension to the absolute top, or Aditya Dhar’s box-office dominance, somehow feels to them like conceding defeat," a recent Bollywood Hungama opinion article stated.

The view might be slowly changing. Better late than never, they say. And some celebs are coming around to praising Ranveer. Ranbir Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana, and Akshay Kumar have given a thumbs-up to Ranveer. That said, there has been noticeable silence or limited public praise from a few big Bollywood heavyweights like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, and Amitabh Bachchan.
