On Thursday night, some scenes of Jana Nayagan found their way into the Internet. Since the movie is a massive project whose budget is about Rs 350 Cr, the leak has to be deemed as one of the biggest shockers ever to hit the Tamil film industry.
The conventional way of looking at the development is that Thalapathy Vijay's political opponents have orchestrated it to make sure the movie flops whenever it hits the cinemas. If the entire run-time has been leaked (as has been claimed by many on social media), then this version gains credence automatically.
However, if only a few portions have been leaked, then there could be a different way of looking at it. Almost all the video clips doing the rounds on social media see Vijay's character making a political statement or showing himself as a messiah. In his intro scene, he enters with a BR Ambedkar book in his hand. The ending scene, too, serves his political mission. Many suspect that Vijay himself is behind the leak. "The film was made as a political campaign for Vijay ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Since the movie's release in theatres was stalled, Vijay seems to have come up with a plan," a netizen wrote. However, doubting Vijay's intentions is itself politically motivated as far as his supporters are concerned.
