CBFC denies role in Jana Nayagan leak after TVK alleges sabotage

The illegal online leak of Jana Nayagan didn't happen from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the certification body said on Saturday. The body described the news reports as "baseless and misleading".

"CBFC has clarified that it follows a secure KDM (Key Delivery Message) system for all theatrical films submitted for certification. Access to the content is password-protected, and the KDM remains solely with the producer/filmmaker. Without a valid KDM, the film cannot be accessed or viewed. The DCP (Digital Cinema Package) of Jana Nayagan was handed over to the applicant in Mumbai on 17 March with due acknowledgement, and has remained with them since," the CBFC further stated.

The leak of Jana Nayagan has caused a massive stir in Tamil Nadu, with the TVK party and the film industry reacting strongly. Aadhav Arjuna (General Secretary of TVK) has directly blamed political rivals, specifically naming Union Minister L. Murugan and Tamil Nadu Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin. TVK alleges that because the film was stuck with the CBFC (under the Union I&B Ministry), the leak was "orchestrated" to damage Vijay financially and politically ahead of the assembly elections. They argue it was an attempt to exert pressure on him.
