Here is what critics are saying about Michael Jackson's biopic Michael

Michael, the American musical biographical drama film directed by Antoine Fuqua, is slated to hit the cinemas on April 24. Early reviews have poured in.

Many have disliked the Michael Jackson biopic for not being deep. The most frequent complaint is that the film is a "hagiography". Critics argue it avoids the most controversial aspects of Jackson’s life, specifically omitting the sexual abuse allegations and stopping its narrative in the late 1980s. Discussing Film stated, "The screenplay is occasionally overly sanitized, with heavy-handed dialogue and an over-reliance on recreation rather than re-envisioning. Equally, there are intimate scenes and moments that truly land, offering insight into Michael’s philosophy and relentless work ethic."

The Guardian described it as "bland, bowdlerized, and bad," while The Wrap called it a "frustrating biopic that makes you want to scream."

Nearly every critic has praised Jaafar Jackson’s transformation. Variety noted that he "nails the look, the voice, and the electrostatic moves," describing his performance as more than just an imitation. The lead man is a nephew of Michael Jackson. The film’s $155 million budget is evident in the production design, costumes, and sound. The musical sequences, particularly the Thriller recreation and the 1988 Wembley concert finale, are being hailed as "incredible" and "masterful."
