Actress Anupama Parameswaran will be seen as Kandula Sulochana Rani in Sharwanand's Bhogi, to be released in theatres on August 28. As per the makers, hers is a "spirited character deeply rooted in nature". Sampath Nandi is directing the movie.
Anupama scored a hit in Telugu last year with Kishkindhapuri. In Tamil, she was seen in Pradeep Ranganathan's Dragon and Dhruv Vikram's Bison Kaalamaadan. After Ravi Teja's Eagle and Siddu Jonnalagadda's Tillu Square, she needed to act in a big-scale outing in Telugu. Paradha, a female-centric movie she shouldered, flopped badly at the box office last year. Bhogi is her second Telugu film in recent years where she plays a village woman's role.
Had Anupama went on to act in Rangasthalam (she gave a look test for the Sukumar-Ram Charan movie), she would have become synonymous with village woman roles. "Probably, it was not destined to happen to me. Sometimes, projects we don't want, happen to come to us. At other times, vice-versa happens," she said in an interview in 2022, reflecting on the last-minute twist.
Bhogi is touted to be a visual spectacle. It was shot across Rajamahendravaram, and the forest regions of Rampachodavaram and Maredumilli. Its story is set in the early 1960s.
