"A story of dreams, emotions, and unexpected love unfolds," wrote Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, sharing the Trailer for their Independence Day release, Vishwanath And Sons. The romantic family drama is directed by Venky Atluri, whose pandemic-time self-introspection has pushed him towards unconventional choices. After Dhanush's SIR and Dulquer Salmaan's Lucky Baskhar, he operates on a whole new level with Suriya in tandem.
Suriya plays an international pistol shooter from an affluent family. In his early 40s, he is taken back when his infant is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Mamitha Baiju's character is flown in from San Francisco; she seems to be playing a matched unrelated (?) donor. The "?" after unrelated is because there could be a twist.
The trailer is a banger. The lovely chemistry between Sanjay Vishwanath (Suriya) and Mamitha's chirpy, upbeat character is natural. She brings fun to a disciplined family filled with serious persons (Radhika Sarathkumar and Raveena Tandon remind you of the women from rich families waiting to let their hair down in the presence of a vibe-y friend/relative). The action portions involve a business and political rival (what is a wealthy family without a rival?).
With music by GV Prakash Kumar, the film is produced by S Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya. The cinematography by Nimish Ravi, editing by Navin Nooli and production design by Banglan look proper. The dialogues are written by Vijayakumar KN.
Vishwanath and Sons head to theatres on August 14.
