This Independence Day, Zee5 is set to release a new Hindi film that looks back at one of the darkest nights in India's recent history through a lens rarely explored on screen. Titled Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, the film will premiere exclusively on the platform on August 14.
As per the makers, this one offers viewers a "story built around courage shown far from the frontlines of the actual attack". Directed by Manoj Tapadia, the project brings together the versatile Kangana Ranaut, Girija Oak and Smita Tambe in lead roles.
PEN Studios, Manikarnika Films and Paramhans Creations, with support from Eunoia Films LLP and Floating Rocks Entertainment Pvt Ltd, have bankrolled the thriller-drama.
What sets the show apart from other 26/11-based movies is this: Rather than focusing on the security forces who confronted the attackers directly, the film turns its attention to Mumbai's Cama and Albless Hospital during the 2008 terror siege. Nurses, ward attendants, cleaning staff and security guards found themselves suddenly thrust into the line of fire while trying to protect the patients under their watch. "The narrative aims to move beyond typical war or thriller storytelling by centering ordinary people who were never trained for combat but acted with remarkable clarity and resolve under pressure. Themes of duty, empathy and quiet bravery run through the film, painting a picture of how everyday individuals can rise to meet extraordinary circumstances when it matters most," the makers suggest.
There are several reasons this release stands out ahead of Independence Day this year. First, it draws directly from real events, reconstructing the experiences of medical staff who found themselves unexpectedly on the frontlines of a national tragedy. Second, it turns the spotlight onto professions that rarely get cinematic recognition, giving overdue visibility to hospital workers whose actions that night went largely unnoticed by the wider public. Third, Kangana Ranaut takes on a role that appears markedly different from her previous work, joined by Oak and Tambe in what promises to be an emotionally intense ensemble performance.

Director Manoj Tapadia explained that the team aimed to explore a fresh angle of the tragic event.
