There is no publicly available comprehensive count or official tally of how many Indian film production houses formally solicited scripts from aspiring writers and directors in the last year. No industry body, trade association, or report tracks this exhaustively across Bollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood, Mollywood, and others.
However, there is a feeling that many production houses have joined the party. Even major banners that have produced billion-rupee movies in Bollywood are seeking out scripts. Why are they doing so? It may have got to do with AI models and their training.
A theory is that AI models are being developed in the background and these scripts submitted by hundreds of gullible aspiring writers via email will go into their training. But thousands of movie scripts of old movies already exist. Why are new scripts needed? AI models become sharper when trained on new ideas.
Aspirants are made a promise: shortlisted writers will get to pitch directly to dozens of producers/studios. When an enormous amount of scripts/synopsis are received via email, how are they going to short-list the best? In the Telugu film industry, for example, written scripts are not read by producers and heroes. How can anybody believe that, suddenly, they will somehow start reading if a random writer from Rajahmundry sends them an email?
