Actor Kriti Sanon has strongly responded to public criticism surrounding her recent Raksha Bandhan advertisement. The commercial for a jewellery brand featured the actor wearing an Indo-Western bralette-style ensemble while celebrating the festival. The ad sparked intense online debate. Critics and public figures called out the outfit choice for being inappropriate for a traditional occasion. The inclusion of a pet dog in the festival sequence also drew mixed reactions.
The Cocktail 2 actress defended the modern portrayal of traditions. She stated that the true essence of festivals lies in underlying emotions rather than clothing choices. Questioning societal judgment on women's fashion choices, she highlighted that cultural respect is not measured by outfits.
Netizens have questioned her choice, though. "Attire must be consistent with the occasion. Plunging neckline and displays of sexuality is appropriate for nightclubs perhaps, not a religious festival Rakhi with elder brother," Indian Tintin opined. "One doesn't go to the office in a bikini. One doesn't go to a temple wearing a bralette. Festivals are not celebrated wearing skimpy clothes. Bollywood is in no position to define culture. Hindu festivals are not launch pads for women empowerment and feminism," another X user added.
