Yash's Toxic has posted a mixed opening weekend at the box office. The Geetu Mohandas-directed film, featuring the KGF actor in a dual role, drew a strong start but has seen collections taper off quickly in the days after.
Domestic net collections stand at Rs. 214 crore over the five-day extended weekend (released on last Wednesday), with the Hindi version contributing Rs. 129.50 crore of that total. Overseas numbers came in comparatively modest at Rs. 29.25 crore net.
A separate regional breakdown offers a gross figure for the same period. Telangana contributed Rs. 16 crore, Andhra Pradesh Rs. 12 crore, Karnataka Rs. 58 crore, Tamil Nadu Rs. 11 crore, and Kerala Rs. 3.5 crore. The rest of India added Rs. 145 crore, taking the all-India gross to Rs. 245.5 crore. Including overseas earnings, the worldwide gross is estimated to be close to Rs. 280 crore.
Given the two sets of figures use different metrics, net versus gross, the overall picture varies depending on which is used. Domestic numbers range between Rs. 214 crore net and Rs. 245.5 crore gross, while worldwide totals fall between roughly Rs. 243 crore and Rs. 280 crore, depending on calculation method.
Toxic is produced by KVN Productions and Yash's own Monster Mind Creations. It's estimated that Dil Raju is in talks with both banners to get back some of the money he paid them in December last year. A portion of the losses from the Telugu States will also be adjusted to Chiranjeevi's Kaaka, produced by KVN Productions and to be distributed (rumouredly) by Raju.
Meanwhile, Yash's marketing gimmicks have led to intense scrutiny. Since Toxic has come to be hated by most, many believe that he went overboard promoting himself as a pan-India sensation whose range is bigger than that of Telugu superstars.
