In recent years, leading actresses in Bollywood have stopped focusing exclusively on back-to-back film schedules. Top stars like Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, and Alia Bhatt are strategically expanding their horizons, a recent Variety India report says.

Acting remains an important element of their identity, but it is no longer the sole engine driving their professional lives. The rise of entrepreneurial pursuits and brand ownership has been crucial.

Prominent figures are investing directly in beauty, lifestyle, and consumer brands. This way, they are creating revenue models that generate income independent of box office performance. Actresses like Katrina Kaif (with Kay Beauty) and Kareena Kapoor Khan have expanded into lucrative business domains and brand partnerships that provide steady, long-term financial independence.

A-list actors, including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, are placing higher value on work-life balance, personal autonomy, and family commitments over the demanding schedules of full-time film production, Variety India adds. "Tamannaah Bhatia has launched her own jewelry business. Alia Bhatt has baby apparel lines and has invested in several businesses that have got her great returns," the report further analyzes.

Down south, too, actresses are investing in businesses. Both Nayanthara and Samantha Ruth Prabhu have expanded into successful entrepreneurs beyond acting. Nayanthara co-founded skincare brands, invested in startups, and runs Rowdy Pictures (the production house). Samantha launched apparel brand Saaki, co-founded a wellness brand, invested in superfood and eco-friendly startups, and established her production banner, Tralala Moving Pictures (Maa Inti Bangaram, Shubham).
