The trailer for The Kerala Story 2 (Hindi) has generated strongly polarized and highly controversial reactions on social media, much like the first film. To be released in theatres on February 27, the social drama tries to show a version of the Love Jihad issue. Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh, it features three stories taking place in three different parts of the country. They involve Hindu girls and their Muslim boyfriends, all of whom are negative characters.
Supporters praised the trailer, saying that the film is going to show the "brutal truth". Some Netizens called the movie an "eye-opener", adding that it shows a hard-hitting exposure of issues like Love Jihad, forced conversions, and threats to identity/faith. Many described it as disturbing, goosebump-inducing, and necessary.
Critics labelled it as "propaganda," manipulative, divisive, or communal hate-spreading. "This is yet another Sangh Parivar-friendly movie whipping up hatred against the Muslim community. While Jana Nayagan hasn't been certified, how come the CBFC is allowing this spiteful film to come out in theatres. Did the Board even ask for cuts?" a netizen questioned.
"They targeted our daughters. They broke their trust. They stole their futures. This time, we do not stay silent. The story goes beyond," the team behind The Kerala Story 2 wrote, sharing the trailer.
