The long-awaited collaboration between Tamil superstars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan was made official today. After a gap of 47 years, the two titans of the silver screen are set to reunite in a film tentatively titled #KHxRK, directed by the master of dark comedy, Nelson Dilipkumar.
The makers have promised a "retro-cool" experience that blends the legendary swag of both icons. The announcement video features a humorous chit-chat between Nelson and music composer Anirudh Ravichander. Their banter culminates in a stylish face-off between the two heroes, ending with the burning question that has fueled fan debates for decades: "Who is the hero?"
The project is being mounted by Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies. Joining Nelson and Anirudh in the technical department are veteran cinematographer Rajiv Menon, and editor R. Nirmal.
This monumental union was first firmed up in late 2025 after months of speculation. Though directors like Lokesh Kanagaraj were initially rumored, the stars chose Nelson.
What to expect from the untitled movie? Loads of action for sure. However, will there be comedy? "I don’t mind if there’s action in #KHXRK but please add a comical angle to the overall treatment. Trust Nelson to take care of it. Can’t sit through another mindless action film where every frame reeks of blood. Both KH and RK are effortlessly good at comedy and it would be a treat to see both tripping on each other. Please make it happen," wrote journalist Haricharan Pudipeddi.
The film will likely head to theatres in the second half of 2027.
