Akkineni Nagarjuna is at the heart of technological evolution. Through his Annapurna Studios, the Kuberaa actor has facilitated a massive leap in filmmaking infrastructure by co-founding the A&M MoCap Lab. This facility is where the motion capture technology has taken a huge leap. And it has already proven its worth by hosting key sequences for Varanasi. Starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, the multi-lingual project utilized the lab’s cutting-edge tech to bring the spiritual essence of Varanasi to life with unprecedented precision.
The lab, which is billed to reshape motion capture in Indian cinema, is a collaboration between Annapurna Studios, Shobu Yarlagadda’s Mihira Visual Labs, and Hollywood’s Animatrik Film Design.
SS Rajamouli, who officially unveiled the facility today, noted that this technology "bridges a long-standing gap" in domestic production. Eega and Baahubali could have been enhanced had such local tools existed sooner, the RRR director added.
Nagarjuna stated that this launch removes the "limitation" of distance and cost for Indian creators. "By providing world-class motion capture in Hyderabad, our lab ensures that epic adventures and complex sci-fi dramas can now be produced entirely on home soil," he was quoted saying by Variety. The lab matches global standards.
