'Dreams': Erotic scenes in this film are feral

Dreams, written and directed by Michel Franco, was released in theatres recently in the US. It has a limited showing in India. Its story "follows the secret affair of wealthy socialite Jennifer (Jessica Chastain) with Mexican ballet dancer and undocumented immigrant Fernando (Isaac Hernández)".

Several reviews have described the sexual encounters between the lead pair as "feral" and "ravenous." They are depicted with a "high degree of physicality and are quite explicit".

Unlike typical Hollywood romances, director Franco uses a "socially realist" style. There is no background music, and the camera often lingers on the actors in long shots. This makes the scenes feel raw and authentic, but also voyeuristic and "inhumanly cold."

As a critic put it, "The film uses sex to highlight the massive power imbalance between the two characters. The sex scenes feel like sites where power is exercised, where Jennifer treats Fernando more like a sexual prize or an object of obsession than a partner."

Here is what the Wikipedia page of Dreams says about the critical reception: On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 59% of 39 critics' reviews are positive.
