Dada - The Sourav Ganguly Story has been made as a biopic. Rajkummar Rao headlines the movie. Speculations have begun about how the biopic might tell its story. In glorifying Ganguly, what compromises would be made? Will the makers be economical with truth? will they take liberties on the pretext of dramatizing the legendary cricketer's stellar achievements?
An X user named Geopolitik predicts that the film will be liberal with the events surrounding India's World Cup win in 2011. "What will be the climax in Ganguly's biopic? It can't be Natwest 2002 because that will be telling half the story. A vital part of his career was when Greg Chappell came in and rightly asked him to drop himself as captain, which he didn't like. But that can't be the climax either because that won't be the happy ending. His double hundred against Pakistan and subsequent retirement would be the perfect option, but that's not exciting enough. So, my guess is it will probably be the 2011 World Cup again portraying it as if it was Ganguly who built that team and the team reaped the rewards later under some other captain. It might end with Ganguly standing in a corner and watching the 2011 team lifting the World Cup with a smile like the Godfather who did it all," he writes.
Meanwhile, many see the first look of Dada as mediocre. "Very bad casting of Rajkummar Rao. He doesn't exude the elitist pampered brat energy of Ganguly. They should have picked a Bengali guy," commented Ceteris Paribus.
