The runaway success of Maa Inti Bangaram has prompted the team behind Rashmika Mandanna's Mysaa to step up its promotional strategy. The latest offering is eye-catching: behind-the-scenes stills from what is being billed as "India's first underwater fight sequence featuring a female lead".
Yet spectacle alone may not guarantee Mysaa the same fate as Samantha Ruth Prabhu's movie. MIB, released in June, thrived on an unusual genre cocktail, blending domestic sentiment with action while daring to explore a married woman's not-so-conventional past. That novelty, more than the action set-pieces, powered its box-office win.
Mysaa, by contrast, rests on a familiar premise: a tribal woman's uprising rendered in gritty tones. Without a genuinely surprising narrative hook, the film risks echoing Anushka Shetty's Ghaati rather than matching the trailblazing appeal of Maa Inti Bangaram. That said, no film can be written off. Rashmika's The Girlfriend had a decent pull. Mysaa will certainly register even better openings if the trailer makes sure the action blocks look inventive.
