A key point of criticism against Lenin is that the first half is not in sync with the second hour. The pacing, the romantic track, the musical indulgence seen in the first half is a total contrast to the twists and reveals and dramatic action sequences in the second part. As some critics have asked, why didn't they make the first half as a thriller too?
This is a warped way of looking at a movie. Romantic revenge dramas are not made like that. If the chemistry between the lead pair is not established properly (especially through melodies), the tension in the later half would seem unsettling. What is more, not many have the stomach for a relentless stream of drama for 150 minutes. Subjecting the viewer to a breathless energy is not what a romantic revenge drama is supposed to do. Had Lenin not taken the pains to let the audience feel the love story, the revenge element would have seemed contrived.
