Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran, who is currently playing Kumbha in Mahesh Babu's 'Varanasi', is in the news over his latest film titled 'I, Nobody'. Critics and audiences generally agree that it is a technically polished thriller with great performances, but it faces issues with its pacing and tonal shifts in the second half.
The criticisms against the movie are many. Director Nisam Basheer, a review opined, attempts to blend multiple genres (moving from a gritty thriller and a dysfunctional family drama into political satire). Many reviewers felt these genre shifts did not happen smoothly and disrupted the film's rhythm.
At nearly 2 hours and 40 minutes, the second half is heavily criticized for dragging, stretching the central mystery thin, and failing to deliver a powerful emotional payoff or "gut punch" in the climax.
Some critics found it hard to stay fully invested when the main character, supposedly an ordinary "nobody," suddenly exhibits the physical strength to single-handedly pummel crowds in high-octane action scenes without any narrative explanation.
Filming took place at Wellington Island in Ernakulam. The film released in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu. 'I, Nobody' has music composed by Jakes Bejoy.
