After watching The Odyssey, many Telugu-speaking and Hindi-speaking audiences are saying that several scenes would have been better mounted by SS Rajamouli. Their view is that Christopher Nolan may be great at technical craft, but it is Rajamouli who can crack mass moments like no other.
Rajamouli is easily one of the most unique filmmakers, but it must also be borne in mind that it's the background score that accomplishes half the job in Indian mass movies. Composers like MM Keeravani and Anirudh Ravichander have played a stellar role in making mass scenes look massier.
This advantage is something Hollywood movies don't have. In the case of The Odyssey, ancient instrumentation, and melancholic synths and electronics dominated. That's not the case with our movies like RRR and Varanasi (a reasonable guess).
Also, Rajamouli himself has been deeply inspired by Hollywood event movies. Baahubali was a case in point. Climbing a high wall using an enemy chain/human shield; The flying/clustered arrows shot; The hero catching a flying arrow; Bhallaladeva's chariot with rotating blades; The infant Baahubali being held up; The massive falling statue of Bhallaladeva; The hero swinging on vines/tree branches after a fall are some of the stretches in Baahubali that are obviously inspired by or copied from Hollywood movies.
