"Why do delays happen in Tollywood?" This is the question Akkineni Nagarjuna asked the other day. Several theories have been floated to explain the delays. The blame is mostly laid at the doorsteps of technicians and directors in the post-production stage. As per Venkat Sid, the Executive Producer of Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi and Care Of Kancharapalem, the problem begins right at the writing stage.
"We don't write our scripts to perfection. Most of us are working with semi-rough or completely rough drafts. I understand that screenplays evolve during production all over the world, but those changes are usually minimal. They mostly involve dialogue refinements or improvisations by actors. In Tollywood, however, what we often call a screenplay is little more than a collection of dialogues," Sid wrote on social media. He added that hardly 5% of scripts are exceptions to this feature. In the rest of the cases, production begins without the full script. "The day we start treating the screenplay as a finished document before production, everything will change," he analyzed.
It's likely that most producers are too lazy to read scripts, which is why they don't appreciate the need for bound scripts. If there is nothing to be read, there would be no need to read anything.
