Rarity: A passion project finds powerful patrons

Sing Geetham, the musical drama from veteran filmmaker Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, is set to hit theaters on June 11. Typically, experimental films, even those touted by their creators as family-friendly, rarely receive such a massive promotional push, largely because most indie projects are backed by lesser-known producers. However, this film is a rare exception. Alongside Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media, the powerhouse duo of Swapna Cinema and Vyjayanthi Movies stands out as one of the few traditional Tollywood heavyweights consistently willing to back such bold, experimental cinema.

Producers Nag Ashwin under Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Dutt under Swapna Cinema have been promoting Sing Geetham tirelessly, winning the admiration of cinephiles. "Say what you want. The Dutt family taking up the project and seeing it through with a bunch of freshers and absolute nobodies, just so that the man (Singeetam) who has given us all so much can fulfil his dream passion project, is so beautiful to see.. And honestly, such a rarity, especially in an ultra-capitalistic industry like ours."

Ayaan, Ahilya Bamroo, Shalini Kondepudi, Thulasi PA, Benarjee, Sivanarayana, and Agu Stanley feature in different roles. The music is by Devi Sri Prasad. Sing Geetham has cinematography by Ankur C. Sing.
