Titled Hollywood Does Abortion, the film argues that the world's richest entertainment industry often helped "create and reinforce negative perceptions" of the procedure undergone by women who want to escape unwanted pregnancies.
According to the documentary, abortion was "frequently depicted as dangerous, shameful, or morally troubling" in many notable movies and television shows. Roseanne, Party of Five, Juno, Dirty Dancing, and The Sopranos are provided as examples.
Filmmakers often linked the procedure to secrecy, trauma, or tragedy. Supporters of the film say these portrayals shaped public attitudes and influenced how audiences understood reproductive healthcare. Writing about the documentary, a Hollywood media report says, "It explores examples from classic films, television dramas, and popular culture. It argues that many storylines focused on fear and consequences while rarely presenting abortion as a routine medical decision. As a result, viewers were often exposed to a narrow and sometimes misleading picture of the experience."
