Avengers: Doomsday, the upcoming Hollywood movie, has suffered from a leak. Nevertheless, Marvel fans are excited.
Here is why. The alleged footage hints at an ambitious story that could bring together heroes from multiple Marvel franchises. Even merchandise images are suggestive of the same.
If the material is anything to go by, Doctor Doom is at the center of the film’s conflict. The villain, fan theories say, will lead a threat large enough to draw in the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and characters from the X-Men universe. This is Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
One of the biggest talking points involves the appearance of Sentinels, the giant robots traditionally linked to mutant storylines. Their inclusion has led many viewers to speculate that mutants could play a major role in the plot. "The footage is also said to feature large-scale battles involving heroes who have never previously shared the screen," a Hollywood media report says.
Despite the growing buzz, none of the leaked material has been officially verified by Marvel Studios. Robert Downey Jr. plays Victor von Doom / Doctor Doom.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released in the US on December 18. The sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, is set to be released on December 17 next year.
