Radha Madhavi Film Distributors has announced the re-release of Mahesh Babu's classic, Okkadu. The Gunasekhar directorial will be re-released worldwide on June 26. With no major new release in the fray this week, the timing is perfect.
The film will be released not only in the Telugu States but also in other territories. "We have readied a 4K print, which is visually fab," the team said.
Gunasekhar, who later directed two more Mahesh movies, stated that Okkadu's popularity has been on the rise year after year. That's so true!
When the romantic action drama was originally released 23 years ago, the performances, Mani Sharma's music, and the inventive action choreography were widely written about. Prakash Raj played the antagonist and Bhumika Chawla essayed the role of the hero's friend. Many loved how the duo meet in a tense situation and the girl takes a liking to the male lead while living with him in the Charminar locality. Telangana Shakuntala was seen in one of her most memorable roles. At that time, she had made a mark with Nuvvu Nenu as well. Mukesh Rishi, Ajay, Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam and others were part of the cast in Okkadu.
Mahesh Babu once credited Gunasekhar and producer MS Raju for taking a massive gamble on the film's concept. He mentioned that Okkadu took him from being viewed as a promising young actor to establishing him as a genuine commercial powerhouse in Tollywood. In his own words during retrospective reflections, he noted that the movie changed everything for him overnight.
