The Telugu film industry is pivoting toward high octane athletic dramas in 2026 and 2027 with a diverse lineup of sports centric films ready for release.
Biker: Leading the pack is the Sharwanand-Rajasekhar movie, which promises to introduce the raw intensity of motocross racing to the silver screen for the first time in a major way. It will head to theatres on April 3. The makers have promised Hollywoodian standards. If the film becomes a hit, it will set a new benchmark in filmmaking standards. If not, it will be trolled heavily - if at all it gets noticed, that is.
Peddi: Ram Charan's Peddi will explore the worlds of cricket, wrestling and professional running. The Buchi Babu Sana directorial will head to theatres on April 30.
Vishwanath and Sons: Suriya's film takes a focused look at the precision and mental discipline of competitive shooting for a while. It is not a sports film, though. It's an age-gap romance co-starring Premalu fame Mamitha Baiju. Venky Atluri has directed this July release.

Actor Varun Tej has collaborated with director Yadhu Vamsi for an untitled project centered on volleyball, highlighting a sport that is gaining a degree of regional popularity. If Korean Kanakaraju, Varun Tej's next, becomes a hit, this film will receive a budgetary boost.
Telugu films have rarely explored sports with authenticity and sincerity. Varun Tej's Ghani and Roshan Meka's Champion (it was not a true-blue sports film, though) were disappointments. Rajamouli's Sye was a rare exception, but it's the only film in the director's career to not attain breakeven.
