Despite rift, Vijay's father offered prayers before counting began

SA Chandrasekhar, the veteran filmmaker and Thalapathy Vijay's father, today visited the Tiruttani Murugan Temple just before the counting of results began. He performed special pujas for his son. Vijay is the chief of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party, which is likely coming to power on its own in Tamil Nadu. At the time of writing, it is the single largest party and is not through the half-way mark yet.

Chandrasekhar prayed for the success of his son’s political debut. This spiritual gesture has drawn the media's attention. The father and son were perceived to have serious differences for many years. Their public relationship remained strained over political and personal issues.

A few years ago, without Vijay's consent, his father registered a political party called the All India Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam with the Election Commission. The Jana Nayagan actor responded by filing a legal case against 11 people, including his own parents.

Vijay also visited temples in Tiruchendur and Shirdi recently, besides a few churches.
